A. FAQ's : PRE RACE
1. Do I need to be at the Race Briefing the day before the race?
YES, race briefing is compulsory for all athletes competing in the race. It's important to have first hand information about any possible changes in the race course, things to look out for (cautions) and of course it doesn't hurt to be reminded of the basic rules of duathlon racing, for those of you who race in a number of types of races. Also it is a chance for you to ask the race director any questions that you may have.

2. On race day morning do I need to register once again?
NO. You should have already picked up your race kit/goodie bag the day before - which contains all the items that you need to number yourself for race day. Just make sure you come early enough, have your helmet (with race number), bike (with race number), jersey (with race number) and timing chip (if being used) and go straight to the TRANSITION area to park your bike and place your items. (You will not be allowed into TRANSITION without all your race numbers on.)

3. Do I need a license or be a member of any club to participate?
No, you do not need a racing licence or be a member of any association or club, The Malakoff University Duathlon Series and POWERMAN Malaysia is open to all those above 18 years of age.

4. If I am sponsored, can I wear my sponsor’s gear instead of the event apparel?
Yes, you may, participants are encouraged to compete in whatever they are comfortable in. Please bear in mind though, that bare torso's are not allowed at any time during the race, for safety purposes.

5. Is a helmet compulsory?
Yes, a cycling helmet is compulsory during the entire bike section of the course, you may not mount your bike without your helmet being secured properly. Upon arriving at the transition area after completing the bike leg, you may only remove your helmet once off the bike within the transition area.

6. If I am a professional or semi professional athlete, can I participate?
Yes, you may, in the Elite category, the age group categories are strictly for amateurs, who are relatively new or in-experienced.

7. Are foreigners allowed to participate?
Yes, the race is open to all nationalities.

8. Can a friend or family member help me out in the transition area?
Only racers with race numbers are allowed in the transition area. In addition outside help can cause your disqualification. Please see rules and regulations for more information.



B. FAQ's : DURING THE RACE
1. Do I need to change shoes ie. from running to cycling and back?
It would be advisable for you to use running shoes for the run sections of the course and use cycling shoes for more efficiency during cycling.

2. How much water, will water be supplied and how many water stations?
You should carry sufficient water for yourself on the race, yes, there will be water stations on the course, every 2km on the run, and every 15km on the bike; GENERAL RULE OF THUMB IS TO DRINK EVERY 10mins and hydrate sufficiently prior to the race.

3. How hot will it be?
Malaysia is 32 – 38º C with approximately 90% humidity year round. You will be exerting yourself during the race producing heat and racing in the open. It will be HOT.

4. Will the race continue if it rains?
It will be at the discretion of the Race Organiser depending on the severity.

5. Will there be a feed zone?
No. All supplies will be left at the transition area or may be brought along for each discipline, it will be the participant’s own responsibility to ensure that he or she has enough food.

6. Will assistance be allowed?
No, if assistance is rendered due to any mechanical failure of one’s bike you will be automatically disqualified, participant will be allowed to finish the race but will not be ranked or awarded a finisher's medal or certificate. If assistance is rendered due to an accident or collision and the participant insists on still competing as a ranked athlete, it will be at the sole discretion of the organisers and their relevant parties.

7. Will there be a changing area?
There will be male and female toilets / showers behind the stadium.

8. What happens if I get a flat tire?
Athletes are responsible for all of their own spares, tools and whatever problems they can foresee. If assistance is rendered by anybody from the organizing committee, marshals, athletes will be automatically disqualified.

9. How do I get medical assistance?
Please inform our race marshals, who will see that you receive medical assistance. Please be aware that medical assistance will be rendered on the basis severity, as we want to provide as safe a race as possible. There may be instances where immediate medical attention may not be practical.

10. What if I pull out during the race?
You will not have an official ranking time and be classified as Did Not Finish (DNF). You will need to inform the Race Secretariat as soon as possible so that the Race Management know that you are accounted for.

11. Will I be penalized if I receive assistance?
Yes, please see above FAQ Question 6 and 8.

12. What is classified as assistance?
Any outside aid or help rendered to repair a bike, fuel any athlete by way of water bottle or food provided other than from designated water stations and items prepared at transition area, includes but not limited to pacing, motor pacing, drafting and motor drafting either intentional or non-intentional. (Please see rules on drafting and pacing)

13. Am I allowed to draft or pace another competitor?
No, pacing and drafting is strictly not allowed. Please see rule on drafting and pacing.

14. When I go for the run, where do I leave my bike?
At the designated bike transition area, please only use the designated bay issued (according to your race number), athletes found utilizing bays that are not designated for them, may be penalized with a stop and start again time penalty or disqualified (DQ’ed).

15. What if I get lost on the race course?
Please try to retrace steps back to last indicator of signage, course will be marked with directional boards and marshals at major intersections, Please follow required instructions, We would advise all athletes to be familiar with the course prior to the race date. Any changes will be made known at the soonest possible date via email and posted on the website, please check back frequently for updates.

16. What if I need to pee or relieve myself?
Please use the toilet facilities provided at the stadium.

17. Will the roads be closed to traffic?
Not completely, there will still be public traffic, but all major intersections will be marshaled and policed to ease and administrate traffic control, with a view to have a safe and conducive race/event.


C. FAQ's : POST RACE
1. When can I get a breakdown of my results?
Full and final results for all will be published on our website 2 days after race day. Please be advised not to seek your results from the secretariat tent after you have just completed the race, as the secretariat will be busy tabulating and entering everyone's results (which takes time and concentration). Top results will be announced during price giving ceremony.

2. When will the certificates and medals be given out?
Medals will be given out to all officially ranked finishers as soon as they cross the finish line within the stipulated time frame, certificates will be mailed to the relevant athletes after the event. The prize giving ceremony will be conducted at the venue approximately 1 hour after the official cut off time.

3 . If I bring my family along, is there anything for them to do?
Most of our race sites are located not too far from eating outlets and places of interest. Do encourage your family to come along, bring a picnic basket, camera and hat of course.

 

D. FAQ's : RACE QUALIFYING TECHNICALITIES
1. How do I qualify for Powerman Malaysia?
You do not need to qualify for Powerman Malaysia, you only need to pay the entry fee to participate.

2. What does it take to win a place to Powerman Zofingen?
There will be 50 qualifying slots for Powerman Zofingen available to all who participate, these 50 placings will be spread out over 10 age categories.

3. If I qualify for Powerman Zofingen, are all my expenses paid for?
No, Powerman Malaysia is a qualifying race for Powerman Zofingen, the World Cup Finals in Zofingen Switzerland, the most prestigious race in the duathlon world circuit. Upon your qualification to Powerman Zofingen you are encouraged to seek for the required funding. The Powerman Malaysia will assist where possible in all administrative and organizational matters.
