All participants need to collect their race kit. Please check that
names and details are correct on the list. Please bring your IC
or passport along for identification. You will also need to bring
RM50 along for the race timing chip. Please note
that this is refundable. Upon completion of race, please head to
race secretariat to return chip and collect your deposit.

Andy recently came in 1st in the Elite Powerman Zofingen,
Switzerland. It will be his first time to Malaysia, so it
will be exciting to watch how he will fair in the Malaysian
heat. |

It will be Aksel's first Powerman Malaysia, though he
is no stranger to duathlon's, having been racing competitively
for over 4 years now in duathlons. Aksel has been known in
Denmark as a short and long distance champion. |

Anthony
Le Duey, FRANCE
4 time french champion in duathlon (2002 - 2006), Anthony
will bring some 'french flair' to Powerman Malaysia, with
his first race in Malaysia. Anthony recently came in 4th in
the Belgium long distance world championships. |

This will be Crispine's 5th time

Elmar will be another ahtlete to

Erich is a french national residing
in Hong Kong and is no stranger to the hot and humid asian

about 3 and a half hours up north on the west coast of Peninsular
Malaysia. About 8kms away from Lumut, the port before entering
Pangkor Island, Seri Manjung is buzzing with activity throughout

GENERAL
Anyone may enter the Powerman Malaysia.
The following basic entry requirements apply:
1. 18 years and above (persons above the age of 16 may enter with
signed parental and/or legal guardian consent on a case to case
basis)
2. Able bodied and found to be healthy. (We recommend that you inform
your general practitioner on your new hobby)
CATEGORIES
1. Elite Category (male and female) – Province, State,
and/or National athletes (esp. middle and long distance runners,
road cyclists, triathletes, duathletes)
a. No age classification. (18 years and above)
b. This category is for any athlete/competitor/participant who has
represented their province, state, and/or national squads at local,
regional or international competitions in the last 18 months (calculated
from date of last competition/event) or
top level amateur athlete who feels they would like to compete in
the Elite category. This category will also be, where selection
of national duathletes, to represent the country at local, regional,
or international events will be made from.
c. Athletes already competing in Elite categories (Powerman) may
opt to compete in age group competition ONLY in the following manner
- Proof of injury and having rested from active and competitive
competition in the last 12 months.
(Active and competitive competition will constitute placing higher
than 5th place in any running, cycling, triathlon or multi-sport
event in Malaysia)
or
- Above the age of 40 years.(Upon appeal to event organiser, organizers
decision is final)
or All of the above.
d. Athletes who compete in elite or open level racing for other
duathlon or triathlon series will be deemed competing in Powerman
Malaysia in the elite category.
e. The organizers reserve the right to request top amateur athletes
to race in this category, upon knowledge of past race results.
f. The organizers reserve the right to refuse entry to any competitor
deemed a top athlete in their own field of sporting excellence.
g. The Race Directors and organizers decision is final
*All appeals are to be made to the organizers no later than 48 hours
BEFORE commencement of the event.
2. Age
group Category (male and female) – Weekend warriors, newcomers.
Age categories in 10-year intervals (18 years and above) with exception
of the 40 - 44, 45 - 49 and 60 & above category.
Age definition is referred to as : age as of 31 Dec of the competing
year. You may be required to show proof of age i.e.: passport, identification
card, driving license.
a. Athletes/competitors/participants racing in age group categories
may upgrade to Elite category, at any time during the year.
b. Age group athletes who opt for Elite category racing and having
raced in a minimum of 1 leg of the Malaysian Duathlon series or
Powerman Malaysia in the Elite category, may return to age group
racing, only by observing the Elite category rulings above. [Please
see rulings for Elite (c)]
3. Sprint category – Absolute
beginners, youth and juniors
Under 16.
2 categories male and female 16-60 years
Open to all ages and abilities.
(Youths and Juniors are encouraged to give this category a “do-athlon”.
16 years and below will need to be under immediate parental supervision
and guidance).
Discretion and due consideration will be exercised on a case to
case basis
Event organizer reserves the right to refuse entry to any competitor
found to be acting or conducting themselves in an un-sportsmanlike
manner.
Competitors placing top 5 regularly (2 out of 3) in this category
will need to upgrade to the full event for the following year.
(Except for competitors 16 years and below)
Entry restricted to the following :-
a. All professional, semi-professional, district, state and national
runners, mountain bikers, track cyclists, road cyclists, duathletes
and triathletes.
b. All past individual competitors of the Malaysian Duathlon Series
who have ranked within the top 10 of their categories.
(Please enquire with the event organizer on eligibility)
4. Team
Relay (Mixed and male) -
No age classification (18 years and above)
Women relay teams will have to compete in the mixed category, for
the moment.
Other
RULES and REGULATIONS
A. OFFICIAL FINISHER/PRIZE MONEY
All finishing participants will get a “Certificate of Participation”
Prize money will only go to the Top 4 athletes in the open categories
and Top 5 in the age group categories, provided they finish within
the stipulated cut off time. (Each race cut off time may differ,
please countercheck which race you registered in).
In the instance of only one person in an age group category, the
person will have to finish within the stipulated cut off time to
be recognized as the Top athlete in his/her age group.
To earn an “OFFICIAL FINISHER” medal or where applicable
“FINISHER” t-shirt, participants will need to finish
within the officially stipulated cut off time.
“FINISHER” medals are ONLY given to all individual long
distance competitors.
“FINISHER” t-shirts (where applicable) are ONLY given
out to long distance individual duathletes finishing within the
stipulated cut-off time.
B.
TRANSITION AREA
All changeover of equipment must be done within the stipulated transition
area
Run 1- T1 – Bike – T2 - Run 2 (T1 and T2 are in the
same area)
All competitors must have their helmet buckles fastened and helmets
secured on the top of their heads, from the time they remove their
bicycle from the rack, at the start of the bicycle leg until after
they have finished and placed their bicycle on the rack at the end
of the bicycle leg.
Competitors may only use their designated bike bays / racks. Please
adhere to all instructions, by race marshals pertaining to the transition
area.
Competitors must not adjust, obstruct, interfere or assist with
another competitor’s equipment in the transition area.
You may run or walk within the transition area; we strongly recommend
that you move swiftly without obstructing or endangering yourself
or other competitors, within the transition area.
Cycling is STRICTLY PROHIBITED within
the transition area.
Nudity or indecent exposure is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
Non-competitors will NOT be allowed into the transition area, once
the race begins.
You may only claim your bike and equipment from the competitors’
area by producing your race bib number.
The transition area will only OPEN approximately, 1.5 hours prior
to the race start time.
The transition area will be CLOSED approximately 30 mins after the
official cut of time.
C. RUN
Competitors may run or walk during the required run legs.
Competitors may not crawl. (competitors will be deemed to be injured
and extracted from the race course)
Competitors are not allowed to run with a bare torso.
Competitors must wear their race numbers both on the front and back
of their t-shirts or tops during running.
Support vehicles or pacers are strictly prohibited. (Please see
ruling on drafting).
Glass containers, headsets, headphones are strictly prohibited.
The responsibility of keeping on the course rests with the competitor.
Any competitor who appears to present a danger to themselves or
others may be removed from the competition.
D. BIKE
A competitor is not allowed to block others.
A competitor is not allowed to make forward progress without a bicycle.
A competitor may run or walk with their bike.
A competitor must obey all traffic laws (governed by the Road Transport
Ministry) unless otherwise directed by an official.
A bare torso will not be permitted while cycling.
Competitors must ensure that their race numbers are clearly visible
both on the front and lower back of their T-shirts or tops during
cycling.
Cycling helmets are compulsory during the entire bike course. These
must be in accordance with updated UCI helmet requirements with
CE or ANSI or SNELL certification.
Any competitors seen riding without a helmet will be disqualified.
Note : Some time trial or aero helmets do not meet these requirements.
Please see race secretariat for further clarification. Race Director’s
decision is final.
Headphones, headsets and glass containers are strictly prohibited.
Individual support vehicle and support crews is/are strictly prohibited.
Aero bars and clip-ons may be used, all ends must be plugged.
No wheel may contain mechanisms, which are capable of accelerating
it.
D.1. Drafting
This is a non-drafting race. The following rules will apply :-
a) Drafting off another competitor or motor vehicle is strictly
forbidden. Competitors must reject attempts by others to draft.
b) A competitor is entitled to any position on the course, provided
they get to that position first, without contacting others. When
taking a position, a competitor must allow reasonable space for
others to make normal movements without making contact. Adequate
space must be available before passing.
c) A competitor who approaches from any position to take advantage
of the draft bears responsibility for avoiding the draft.
D.1.2
Bicycle Draft Zone
The draft zone for all competitors will
be a rectangle 10 meters long (5 bike
lengths) by 3 meters wide.
The draft zone will be measured from the back edge of the back wheel
of the bike in front to the front edge of the front wheel of the
back bike.
(Please see accompanied Illustration 1 & 2)
A competitor may enter the draft zone of another competitor, but
must be seen to be progressing through that zone. (30 second time
limit)
A maximum of 30 seconds will be allowed to pass through the zone
of another competitor.

D.1.3 Entry into bicycle draft zone
A competitor may enter a bicycle draft zone (subject to an official’s
judgement) in the following circumstances:
a) If the competitors enters the draft zone, and progresses through
it within 30 seconds
b) For safety reasons
c) At an aid station
d) At the exit or entrance of the transition area
e) At an acute turn
f) If race officials exclude a section of course because of narrow
lanes, construction, detours, or for other safety reasons.
Drafting is defined as,
1. Riding directly behind another bike, within the draft zone.
2. Riding 2 or more abreast, within the draft zone.
3. Riding 2 or more diagonally next to each other, within the draft
zone.

D.1.4 Overtaking Definition
A competitor is passed or deemed to be overtaken when another competitor's
front wheel is ahead of theirs.
Once overtaken, it is upon the onus of the overtaken competitor,
who must immediately move out of the draft zone of the leading /
overtaking competitor.
*The 15 second ruling will apply in this instance
D.2.
Penalties for drafting.
D.2.1 : First Infringement : 1st warning
A verbal warning will be given by race officials in the following
manners:
a) Sounding a whistle or horn.
b) Waving of a red flag
c) A noting down of competitors number
D.2.2 : Second infringement : 2nd warning
A 3 min. " stop and start" ruling will
be immediately applied ON SITE with an indication of a "drafting
penalty" in the officially published results
a) Sounding of a whistle or horn
b) Showing a yellow card
c) Calling the competitor's number or name and yelling "STOP"
in English.
*Non adherence to any of the above will constitute an
immediate disqualification (Please see D.2.3 for further action)
d) The alphabet "D" will be initialed on the competitor's
number and a red diagonal line will be placed across the violating
competitors number
e) This infringement will be subsequently reported back to race
secretariat for the appropriate action to be taken
The 3 min time penalty
will begin immediately after the competitor has stopped and fully
dismounted from his/her bike.
Fully dismounted will constitute, both feet on the ground
on the left hand side of the bike.
D.2.3 : Third infringement : 3rd warning
An immediate disqualification or "DQ"
a) Sounding of a whistle or horn or waving of a flag
b) Showing of a red card.
c) Calling the competitors number or name and yelling "STOP"
in English
d) The alphabet "DQ" will be initialed on the competitor's
number and a red cross will be placed across the violating competitors
number
e) This infringement will be subsequently reported back to race
secretariat for the appropriate action to be taken
E.
GENERAL DISQUALIFICATION
Disqualification or a "DQ" is a penalty appropriate for
a violation
A disqualification will be signaled in the following manners
a) Sounding of a whistle or horn or waving a flag
b) Showing of a red card.
c) Calling of the competitors name and yelling STOP in English.
d) The alphabets "DQ" will be initialed on the competitor's
number and a red cross will be
e) This infringement will be subsequently reported back to race
secretariat for the appropriate action to be taken
comm ittees' decision is final in determining removal / disqualification.
E.1.
Reasons for disqualification
A competitor may be disqualified for the following :-
· Consumption of alcohol, or other drugs 24 hours before
the race.
· Consumption of performance enhancing stimulants.
· Refusing to follow rules and/ or instructions of race officials
· Failing to follow the prescribed course.
· Using abusive language or behavior untoward / unbecoming
towards any official or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
· Blocking, charging, obstructing, or interfering with the
forward progress of another competitor.
· Unfair contact. The fact that contact occurs between competitors
does not constitute a violation. When several competitors are moving
in a limited area, contact may occur. This incidental contact between
competitors in equally favorable positions is not a violation.
· Accepting assistance from any person other than a race
official or accepting assistance from a race official which constitutes
an unfair advantage.
· Refusing to follow the instructions of a race official.
· Departing the course for reasons of safety but failing
to re-enter at the point of departure.
· Leaving equipment or discarding personal articles on the
course. Tires, plastic bottles, and discarded items must be placed
safely off the course.
· Wearing items deemed a hazard to self or others ie : a
hard cast, obtrusive jewelry, headsets, headphones
· Using unauthorized equipment to provide an advantage or
which will be dangerous to others.
· Violating traffic regulations
E.2.
Procedure after Disqualification
A competitor may finish the race after an official calls for a penalty
or disqualification, but will subsequently have to check with the
race secretariat, for more information. A competitor may appeal

Section L of the ITU rulebook.
Protests and complaints
Complaints or protests of being fouled by other competitors or notices
of violation or protest against that notice HAVE
to be filed officially in writing with the organizing
committee based at the Race Secretariat within 30 minutes of your
completion of the event, accompanied with a RM150 non returnable
deposit.
*If your protest is successful the deposit will be returned.
Verbal complaints, protests or any of the above will NOT
be entertained.
The organizing committee reserves the right to apply due discretion
on a case-to-case basis.
The Race Directors and organizing committees decision is final.
For more detailed explanation and expansion of rules and regulations,
rule books from governing bodies UCI, IAAF and ITU will be used
as a basis.
